Events celebrating the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism are planned in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands throughout 2025.

Mennonites, Baptists and other ecumenically minded Anabaptists in Germany planned a five-year series of events from 2020 to 2025 under the theme of “Daring.” Exhibits, ecumenical worship services, conferences and historical presentations have highlighted a different subtheme each year, culminating in 2025 with “Bible Living.” All events are collected at taeuferbewegung2025.de/termine.

Activities closest to the late January anniversary of the first adult baptisms include exhibits on Anabaptist history in Bensheim, Dußlingen, Kapellen-Drusweiler, Lörrach and Norden, Germany, and a radio broadcast of the Jan. 26 worship service at Enkenbach Mennonite Church.

Traveling exhibits will visit other locations from February through August.

Among events focused on unity with German Baptists today, a joint worship service will be livestreamed Feb. 2 from Stuttgart; a preaching dialogue will take place among Mennonites and Baptists Feb. 23 in Berlin; an ecumenical celebration of Anabaptist history and influence will be held June 28 with other Bavarian Protestant groups in Ingolstadt; and an ecumenical worship service will be held with Baptists Sept. 21 in Hamburg.

Mennonite World Conference’s quincentenary celebration will be May 29 in Zurich, Switzerland, followed by the Anabaptist History Congress June 2-4 in Zurich and a Believers Church Conference June 1-4 in Amsterdam.

A free-church theology symposium on the 2025 theme of “Bible Living” and Anabaptist history will be held Sept. 19-21 in Hamburg. Festivities conclude with a colloquium on Anabaptist history Sept. 26-28 at Bienenberg Theological Seminary, coordinated by Mennonite historical societies from Switzerland, France and Germany.
