Last year, when I was working on pulling together the 2016 Advent playlist, I wrote about why Advent was my favorite season of the church year. That remains as true this year as it was last year, but this year, even more than last, the impending Advent season, which also holds the longest night of the year, the Winter Solstice, also seems to mirror my current spiritual mood.
This year has felt heavy: in our world, in our country and in our church. This is not new, but perhaps this new role has given me a front row seat to both the heaviness and the hope that we’re living with in new ways.
So I’m ready for Advent. Ready to intentionally dwell together in that liminal space of waiting and watching and hoping and working together for the signs of God’s coming in our midst. With no further ado, here’s the 2016 playlist, ready for listening. Hannah
