For Amish, long trip to chiropractor can be fun

CANISTOTA, S.D. — It’s a common site in Old Order Amish communities: blue dresses, black pants and white socks on a clothesline billowing in a brisk, early spring wind. But this clothesline and its contents aren’t in Pennsylvania or Ohio or Iowa. They are behind a motel in the small southeastern South Dakota town of Canistota. The clothes’ owners are among the vanloads of Amish who travel from as far as Delaware and New York to Canistota for treatments at the renowned Ortman Chiropractic Clinic.

Eggs symbolize lasting impact in West Bank

BEIT JALA, West Bank — Say the word “Mennonite” here and the first thing many people think of is eggs. At least 2,000 “Mennonite eggs” a day are produced at an open-sided chicken barn on the campus of Hope Secondary School and distributed to restaurants, grocery stores and school cafeterias in the area.

As rural life changes, a church lets go of the past

In its heyday, First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, Minn., saw between 400 and 500 people fill its pews and balcony on a Sunday morning. Built in 1955-56, it was the home of a General Conference Mennonite congregation founded in 1878 by immigrants from Russia.
