In a letter to constituents in response to “Consultation Offers Peace-Church Voice on Military Service” (Oct. 14), Don Morris, national director of the U.S. Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, says, “We do still strongly push and desire peacemaking as a significant part of who we are as a denomination.” His statement is consistent with what he told me before and after the consultation. He also says the USMB board will make its own statement to the commission after its November meeting. Mennonite Central Committee and the other Anabaptist denominations welcome the MBs bringing their voice to responding to the National Commission on Military, National and Public Service as well.
