Whose lifestyle?

Mike Combs rightly denounces the term “homosexual lifestyle” (Letters, March 16). I don’t know what writers mean when they use that term, but I am certain it is negative. Consider the following activities: teenagers having sex, unmarried women and men living together, couples having children outside marriage, lust, fornication, adultery, the divorce-remarry-divorce-remarry cycle, spousal abuse. These are elements of a “heterosexual lifestyle.” We don’t tag a married man and woman, or a couple planning marriage, with the “heterosexual lifestyle” label. Nor should we tag two men or two women desiring to make a lifelong commitment with the “homosexual lifestyle” label. I request that editors refuse to publish letters that use this term.
