In reference to Pope Francis issuing a document that permits priests and bishops to bless same-sex couples (“On same-sex blessings, some Catholics celebrate change, others cite limits,” January): Mennonite Church USA, at a delegate meeting in 2022, went even further than that, retiring the Membership Guidelines, which had prohibited credentialed pastors to officiate such marriages. We raised our family in the Mennonite Church, and our children are still there — a church that had upheld long-established biblical truths, sacrificial atonement by Christ on the cross and the Mennonite Confession of Faith. Now this. It is a betrayal and invites disunity.
