Relationships between people of different generations cultivate spiritual mentoring and friendship. Anabaptist World invites you to share how intergenerational experiences have influenced your faith and life. Below are some questions to get your thoughts flowing.

  • A survey by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship found 40% of college students said they benefited from guidance from a more mature Christian. Have you experienced this, either as the younger person or the older?
  • Does your congregation help people make intergenerational connections? What role does this play in your faith community?
  • Co-housing — part of the intentional community movement — often includes intergenerational living spaces. How does intergenerational living help care for elders and people of all ages? (Isolation leads to earlier death for elders and higher rates of depression and other serious health issues among all populations.) Have you experienced intergenerational living? How has it impacted your life?
  • The elderly and children benefit from interaction with each another. Have you witnessed this? How might Christ’s words, “Let the little children come to me,” inform these relationships?
  • Scripture refers to generational blessings and curses. How do we understand that today? How have positive or negative aspects of your family history manifested in your life and faith? Have you explored this with your family or with others?
  • Five minutes for a children’s story is fine, but what are other ways your congregation incorporates youth into worship?
