I wish to express my appreciation for J. Nelson Kraybill’s statement (“A political leader’s offenses”): “The silence of American religious leaders in the face of such degradation is doing lasting damage to Christian witness.” I feel deeply saddened by the silence of, and the support of much of the religious community as our president lies, follows racist policy, trashes the free press, coddles brutal dictators, is proud of his immoral and adulterous behavior and defies and disobeys our Constitution. To me this borders on treason. Surely it is sinful and troubling.

I concur with Jim Wallis of Sojourners magazine, who points out that many Christians are disregarding the politics of Jesus and instead serving the politics of Antichrist. I am reminded of how Christians supported the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany in the 1930s. He promised to make Germany great again. Saddened by these similarities, I pray for revival for our churches, for a recommitment to Jesus as Lord and for a committed practice of the politics of Jesus.
