Hillary Watson (Column, July 30) challenges Mennonites to ask, “Who are we and who do we want to be in the abortion debate?” Mennonites have defined themselves as people of peace even when the cost is high. Mennonites shun violence and would all agree that in any debate they would fill the role of peacemaker. Regarding the abortion debate, if you are a Mennonite and seek honest conversation and unconfused self-evaluation, you must ask, “Is abortion violent?”
