Three questions for MC Canada

Delegates at the Mennonite Church Canada assembly July 3-6 in Winnipeg, Man., approved a set of questions for denomination-wide discussion over the next two years.

The questions are part of the Being a Faithful Church process. The project — to help congregations discern God’s will through scriptural interpretation — has been going on since 2009.

Human sexuality, particularly same-sex relationships, is the topic currently being addressed. The following questions, which could be rephrased over the coming months, were approved for congregational discussion:

EMM Global Fair serves up a feast of cultures

SALUNGA, Pa. — Nestled among the buildings of the oldest homestead in Lancaster County on July 12 were international flags, girls trying on chadars and the aroma of osh cooking over an open fire.

Countdown to reunion

The worldwide Anabaptist family reunion will come to the eastern U.S. next summer for the first time in Mennonite World Conference’s 90-year history.

U.S. Mennonites and Brethren in Christ are inviting sisters and brothers from around the world to Harrisburg, Pa., July 21-26, 2015, for MWC’s every-six-year assembly.

The event was last held in the U.S. in 1978 in Wichita, Kan.

Author, editor, pastor dies at 85

John M. Drescher, a prolific author and well-known speaker, teacher, pastor and editor of Gospel Herald, died July 10 in Quakertown, Pa. He was 85.

Drescher authored 37 books, including Why I Am a Conscientious Objector, Seven Things Children Need and Spirit Fruit. He edited Gospel Herald, the Mennonite Church magazine, from 1962 to 1973.

He served as MC moderator from 1969 to 1971 and was a member of the denomination’s General Board.
