While I normally enjoy “Loaves and Fishsticks,” the one in the March 5 issue was troubling. Although I do not attend a megachurch, it bothers me when Christians criticize them. While I may not agree with the theology preached in some megachurches nor with the political views they might promote, I do know they provide ministries that serve hurting people who might feel uncomfortable entering a traditional church. People without structure in their lives might also find a more legalistic theology to be just what they need.
A friend who is a chef attends a large nondenominational church in our city and offers his services for the church’s “Jesus prom” for teens with developmental disabilities. Kids dress in their finest to enjoy a fancy meal in the church’s banquet hall. My church would not have the resources to pull off such a large event.
God works through many churches in many ways. Instead of judging them, we should celebrate the good things they do.
