As a retired journalist, I fight for the U.S. Constitution and democracy, in light of the teachings of Jesus. I use Facebook to post stories from legitimate news outlets to encourage dialogue on current issues. I find it surprising the number of people who believe a theocracy (Christian nation) is compatible with a democracy. Many forget that the pilgrims fled British rule to escape the state church and to find freedom of/from religion. Proponents of a Christian theocracy (MAGA) seem not to understand they are arguing for a political system identical to the Muslim Taliban. The Trump administration, better described as a dictatorship, argues that the president is not bound by court rulings. That is clearly unconstitutional. The dictatorship also has no respect for the teachings and example of Jesus, who called on his followers to care for the hungry, sick and economically oppressed. Trump wants to cut assistance to those in need so that tax loopholes can be extended for the wealthy. Adolf Hitler was elected because the good people of Germany remained silent. We should not follow the same path.
