A Michigan man pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated causing death after he drove into a group of four Amish children on bikes on their way to school, killing a 10-year-old boy.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office announced Dec. 3 that Logan Thomas, 30, of Vicksburg entered the plea, enhanced as a fourth habitual offender. WZZM13 reported Thomas was charged for the Dec. 2, 2024, crash after a toxicology report showed he was under the influence of methamphetamine, fentanyl, amphetamine and morphine at the time of the crash.
The prosecutor’s office said Thomas had three prior convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and his driver’s license was revoked. He was out on bond for driving while his license was suspended in Kalamazoo County when the crash happened.
The offense is punishable by up to life in prison. Under the plea deal, the prosecution and defense recommend a minimum sentence of 7.5 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 19.
