Over this year’s Winter Camp at Camp Friedenswald, Michael Crosby from FMC-Champaign-Urbana, shared a worship activity themed after the Zapatista Air Force.
The Zapatista Air Force was not a fleet of jets, but a fleet of paper airplanes launched at military bases carrying messages directly to occupying forces in Amador Hernández, Chiapas. Messages like: “Soldiers, we know that you sold your lives and souls because of poverty. I am also poor, like many millions are poor, but you are worse off because you are defending the one who exploits us, that is, Zedillo and his little group of rich men. We don’t sell our lives. We want to liberate our lives and those of your children, their lives and those of your wives, the lives of your brothers, the lives of your uncles, the lives of your papas and your mamas and the lives of millions of poor exploited Mexicans, we want to liberate your lives too so that there won’t be soldiers that repress their peoples because of orders from a few thieves.”
Inspired, the youth wrote messages of blessings on paper airplanes and arranged them into an infinity symbol (as pictured). One of the airplanes had Philippians 4:6 written on it: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.
What blessings would you want to share with the world?
