Evelyn graduated from Hilltown High School in 1949 and began working as a secretary and hosiery mill employee. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Paul Wismer Meyers, whom she had met through the Voices of Youth Choir. They were married for 52 years, residing in Dublin, Lansdale and finally in Souderton, Pa.
Between 1952 and 1968, Evelyn and Paul welcomed eight children, whom Evelyn cared for full time, until 1982 when she began working part-time as a baker at North Penn High School. While Evelyn enjoyed being a mother and caring for her children, raised as a farm girl, she looked forward to working outside in the garden or on the lawn and flower beds. Even in her late 80s, she would often be seen outside picking up sticks after a strong wind or pulling weeds from the flower beds. She missed being on the farm and eagerly volunteered to assist her nephew when new chicks arrived at his chicken farm.
As a supportive wife, Evelyn was the woman behind the scenes in Paul’s building and real estate businesses. When Paul opened his own real estate office, Evelyn secured her real estate license to better support him, and it benefited her as the owner following his death.
Evelyn always had a song on her lips and was forever humming a tune as she worked. Singing as a couple and as a family was a great joy for Evelyn and Paul, and the words of her favorite hymns were easily recalled even when other words were lost.
After walking humbly with God for 93 years, Evelyn is once again rejoicing with her husband, Paul, and daughter, Gail, in the home that her Lord and Savior promised.
