An overnight fire destroyed Ebenezer Mennonite Church’s building in Malta, Ohio, in the early morning of Jan. 4.

The Beachy Amish congregation was founded in 1972 as an outreach from Maranatha Fellowship Amish Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek. It operated a school out of its building, and neighboring churches have offered temporary space for classes.

WHIZ Fox 5 reported the Malta Fire Department responded about 3:15 a.m. after a neighbor saw flames. Pastor Jonas Beiler told WHIZ the congregation suspects a furnace in the attic may have started the fire. The congregation intends to rebuild.
