In my early 30s, I learned that a nearby Mennonite church was looking for a choir director. I applied and was accepted — and discovered four-part unaccompanied congregational singing. Oh, my! A new musical world opened for me. The congregation that sings in parts not only hears the harmony, it experiences it. Accompaniments can add to the beauty of the sound. When you sing in church this Advent and Christmas, I encourage you to feel the words and harmonies flowing through the congregation and through you. Rejoice in the sound as it wraps your soul in comfort and joy.
