“5 Right (and 5 Wrong) Ways to Read the Bible” (February) drew my mind to the method of Bible reading I’ve practiced for over two decades. I call it the “balanced diet.” When I taught Sunday school in my 20s and 30s, it dawned on me (or the Holy Spirit convicted) that I was teaching the Bible but hadn’t mastered reading all of it. So I began reading the entire Bible every year and have continued to do so for over 45 years. I used to read in the traditional order, cover to cover. Now I read The One Year Bible, with daily chapters from the Old and New Testaments, followed by a Psalm and a Proverb. When I read the Old Testament law, it’s clear I couldn’t keep it; I should be stoned. But the New Testament has good news: “For by grace ye are saved through faith” (Ephesians 2:8). That’s why I’m excited to read the Bible every morning.
