ADAMA, Ethiopia — It’s time for lunch at Remember the Poorest Community School, about 60 miles south of Addis Ababa. Students are digging into the pasta and buns on their plates. For some of these children, ages 4 to 7, lunch will be their main daily meal.

DEBRE ZEIT, Ethiopia — Three years ago, Fanosie Legesse made a challenge to Listowel (Ont.) Mennonite Church.

Would they help him make sure that the students of Mese­rete Kristos College in Debre Zeit, Ethiopia, each had an English Bible of their own?

Legesse, a member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Elora, Ont., was born and raised in Ethiopia. He and his wife, Dianne, previously served in Ethiopia with Mennonite Church Canada.

First Meserete Kristos children’s curriculum to launch

The Meserete Kristos Church in Ethiopia will soon launch its first uniform Sunday school curriculum — one based on the idea that a foundation for transformative peace can begin with children.

Krista Allen of Elkhart, Ind., wrote the children’s curriculum in collaboration with the MKC peace office during a four-year service term with Mennonite Central Committee in Addis Ababa.
