Lacey Scully of Wichita, Kan., is the new editor of Christian Leader, the magazine of the U.S. Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. She succeeds Connie Faber, who retired in May after 31 years on the USMB denominational magazine staff, including 21 years as editor.
Of the 1,640 people at the Mennonite Church USA convention, 555 were high school youth, with 188 youth sponsors. There were seminars and even a party tailored to youth. For many, the convention was a place to build relationships, learn and grow in faith.
Iglesia Menonita Hispana (Hispanic Mennonite Church), Mennonite Church USA’s Hispanic constituency group, is postponing its 2025 biennial assembly due to the risk of raids, riots and surveillance.
“Wooh, wooh, wooh.” With each rhythmic sound, the man in the center raised and lowered his arms. A young woman joined next, adding a pointing motion and a higher “oooh” between each beat.
The children of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, Neb., raised funds in June for Mennonite Central Committee food baskets, full of staple items like grains, as well as the oil and salt needed to turn ingredients into filling meals. They raised over $14,000.
A keynote, like a tuning fork, is “to strike a chord we all keep coming back to,” said Magdalene Redekop in her keynote address at the Mennonite/s Writing Conference.
“Sisters, we’ve been brainwashed,” said Shannon Dycus, interim president of Eastern Mennonite University, in her keynote address to 185 attendees at Mennonite Church USA’s Women’s Summit on July 8 in Greensboro, N.C.
