The Clinic for Special Children, a nonprofit comprehensive medical practice for children and adults with rare genetic disorders,  commemorated the opening of its new 28,062 sq. ft. medical clinic with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 20. The event celebrated the opening of the new clinic and feature tours of the new facility in Gordonville, Pa.

The Clinic has begun serving patients at its new, expanded facility in Gordonville and moved all operations from its original location in Strasburg, Pa. “We are very grateful to many community members who made this years-long project a reality for the Clinic for Special Children. . . . The new Clinic represents a welcoming place for vulnerable families to turn to when they need specialized care for generations to come,” explained Adam D. Heaps, Executive Director at the Clinic.

The Clinic was founded in 1989 by Dr. Holmes Morton, who specialized in treating genetic disorders that affect Amish and Old Order Mennonite communities, such as Glutaric Acidemia Type 1 and Maple Syrup Urine Disease.

The new building features 12 exam rooms, several patient discussion rooms and family rooms, an integrated and state-of-the-art genetics laboratory, a dedicated space for visiting specialists from local healthcare systems, a fully accessible playground and many more thoughtfully designed features.
