Is this contest open to all photographers?
Professional and/or amateur photographers may participate.
Not eligible: staff members of The Mennonite, freelancers who contract for work with The Mennonite or family members from either group.
What are the categories?
The Mennonite is looking for compelling images in five categories:
1. Worship
2. Work, service and play
3. Creation/nature themes
4. Electronic photo illustrations, collages (Any electronically-merged photos, typography and/or artwork to create a new image).
5. Still life
Do the people in the photos need to be members of Mennonite Church USA?
No. But in photos that include people, preference will be given to those showing members of our denomination.
Is there a prize for the winners?
Yes. $50 will be awarded to the first-place winner in each category
Who are the judges?
Entries will be judged by the editors of The Mennonite and the magazine’s designer. The judges’ decisions are final.
What is the deadline?
Jan. 31, 2013
What are the specs?
Minimum 3,561 x 2,545 pixels (11.9″ x 8.5″ at 300dpi)
All submissions must be sent on a CD with print out of contents.

Text information for captions details. This includes the photography date, location (city, state, country) and identification of people for groups of five or fewer people. Signed releases are required for anyone who can be identified in the photo. (Click here for the model release form PDF).
How many times may I enter?
Entries are limited to five per person.
What rights does The Mennonite reserve with my photo(s)?
All submitted photos will have a two-year permission to use, including uses in print, on The Mennonite’s website and in derivative works (photo collages, silhouettes, cropped images, etc). Contest entrants also agree to give The Mennonite first publication rights: A photo may not be submitted to any other publication until after the photo is published by The Mennonite.
Does The Mennonite guarantee publication?
No. But The Mennonite may periodically publish “thank you” ads or web galleries with submitted images.
Do I need to get permissions policy from the people in my photo(s)?
Yes. Signed releases are required for anyone who can be identified in the photo(s). The official release form (see pdf on Web site) with all required information must accompany the CD of photos.
Is this an annual competition?
Staff at The Mennonite will decide after the first contest.
