According to J. Denny Weaver (“On Jerusalem, Leave Prophecy Out of It,” Blog, Jan. 1), biblical prophecy is only meant for the audience the prophet was speaking to. Never mind that Isaiah’s prophecy of the Savior was fulfilled 700 years later to a new audience. If I take Weaver’s reasoning to its logical conclusion, then everything Jesus said to his audience in the context of “nonexistent nations in a nonexistent United Nations on an unknown continent and a world linked by 21st-century technology would be mere gibberish.” Long after Weaver and his fake-news theology are forgotten, God’s word will still stand. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Once you question the character of God, you have nothing left. God’s word is timeless for every generation. We may not know exactly how prophecy will be fulfilled, but God knows, and it will be exactly as he has planned.
