An addendum to the wonderful account of the Anabaptism @ 500: Gender and Class tour (“Extending the Anabaptist Trail,” July), which Mary Sprunger and I led: Our emphasis on these frameworks of interpretation would not have been possible without the warm welcomes from Austrians dedicated to reclaiming Anabaptist history and identity in their country. These include Alexander Basnar and Michael and Martha Deimel. The Deimels accompanied us on part of the tour and enriched our understanding of Austrian Anabaptism. The tour would not have been possible without the work of many scholars over several decades. I relied on the writing of Canadians Linda A. Huebert Hecht, James M. Stayer and C. Arnold Snyder, as well as German and Austrian historians Astrid von Schlata, Martin Rothkegel and Rheinhold Eichinger. I encourage AW readers interested in gender and class in the Anabaptist movement to read the work of these scholars, along with that of Lyndal Roper, cited in the article.
