Thank you to James Klassen (“Ambiguities of Peacemaking,” September) for his response of “nothing” when answering AW’s question, “What do you fight for?” Words are the beginning of all conflict. I am deeply saddened that our publication framed such a provocative question. And even sadder that when I wrote the AW editor about my concern, he responded that “this has been our most successful question, in terms of how many responses we’ve had.” I guess might does make right. Perhaps a people with a 500-year history of trying to turn the other cheek might have been better served by the question, “What do I wage peace for?”
