The reparations summit in Goshen, Ind., (“Repair & Revival” by Lisa Schirch, February) gave voice to generations of Black and Indigenous people, calling Mennonites to acknowledge how we have benefited from and been complicit in systems that extracted labor through slavery and seized Indigenous land. These same systems persist today through exploitative supply chains, resource extraction and underpaid labor. We only need to examine our spending habits to see how we still benefit from these oppressive systems. The past demands repair. The future demands change. Now is the time for both.
