Elmer Alvin Wall 

Elmer Alvin Wall, 96, of Goshen, Ind., died May 26, 2026. He was born Oct. 30, 1929, a son of Abram D. and Mary (Hiebert) Wall, in Mountain Lake, Minn.

Elmer grew up on a farm and attended a wonderful one-room country school. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1947. He furthered his education by attending Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., and Goshen Biblical Seminary, where he received his bachelor of divinity degree. He received a master of theology degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, in 1960. After his sophomore year at Bethel, he spent a year in Mennonite Voluntary Service in Gulfport, Miss.

He began his life of pastoral ministry in July 1955 at Warren Street Mennonite Church, Middlebury, Ind. He was ordained in his home church, First Mennonite Church of Mountain Lake, in August 1956.

Elmer and Winifred Elizabeth Mumaw were married Dec. 17, 1960, at Prairie Street Mennonite Church, Elkhart, Ind. Together, they served the following pastorates: Church of the Brethren, Middletown, Ohio; Good Shepherd Mennonite, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Carlock and North Danvers Mennonite churches, Carlock, Ill.; Salem-Zion Mennonite, Freeman, S.D.; and First Mennonite, Pretty Prairie, Kan. He was active in the work of the larger church as a member of the General Conference Mennonite Church Division of General Services for 13 years, Home Missions Committee of Central District Conference and president of Northern District Conference for five years. In retirement, he and Winifred served interim pastorates in Freeman, S.D., Fairview, Mich., Montgomery, Ind., and Goshen, Ind. He was a member of Silverwood Mennonite Church, Goshen.

He is survived by three children, Timothy John (Zoann) Wall of Goshen, Loren James (Dawn) Wall of Manhattan, Kan., and Mary Elizabeth, known as Mary Beth, (Scott) Neufeld-Wall of St. Louis; and six grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Winifred; his parents; twin sisters Margaret and Marjorie Wall (at birth); brother Arthur Wall; and three grandsons.
