EMU’s witness is strong

If Eastern Mennonite University had been the same over the last almost 100 years, then Ken Fellenbaum (online comment on “Myron Augsburger and the Mennonite history of the CCCU”) would have something to complain about. The contributing factor he cites [more non-Mennonite faculty and students] has been caused by Mennonite churches not sending their youth to Mennonite colleges. I have been around EMU for more than 50 years and find Christian discipleship as evident now as at any other time. Fifty years ago, “discipleship” was more about following the Mennonite “Torah” of manmade rules than the Spirit in freedom and truth. EMU’s witness is strong all over the world.

I applaud EMU and Goshen College for revamping their hiring practices and voluntarily leaving the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities rather than causing the work of the kingdom to be diminished. Few critics I have talked with know what is really happening at EMU, firsthand.
