I read MWR looking for stories on the environment, global warming, organic Mennonite farming, saving the planet. These are the spiritual issues I thirst for. Often I don’t find much. But in the Aug. 19 issue, bingo! There was a powerful letter from Reta Halteman Finger of Rockingham, Va. (“Warning in Scripture”), reminding us that “Noah’s story is a warning that we humans ourselves are destroying [the Earth] by our reckless use of Earth’s resources and the attitude that climate change is a hoax. . . . Scientists tell us we have only a few years to turn things around, or it will be too late. Part of the church’s mission to save the world is to do all we can to save the Earth.” Thank you, Reta, for reminding us — as many ignore the warnings and cry “Hoax!” — that time for us on planet Earth may be running out and that we need bold action right now if we are to have a chance to save ourselves.
