Becoming an ‘energy saint’

A small group at Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship in Boise, Idaho, meets weekly to nudge church members towards becoming “energy saints.”

This involves ongoing conversations about creation care and the use of energy and resources. Becoming an energy saint means “we are actively working to reduce our energy consumption,” said Lauresta Welty on Nov. 13.

The group began studying Creation Care Network’s curriculum, “Every Creature Singing: Embracing the Good News for Planet Earth” last summer.

Then in October the group made a video slideshow to share its story on YouTube. Roger Piper-Ruth wrote the song for the video and Lauresta and Justin Welty produced it.

The photos that go with the song in this video show the specific things members have been doing to try to become energy saints.
