Hartman resigns from leadership role

Luke A. Hartman, vice president for enrollment at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), submitted his resignation Jan. 11, 2016.  The resignation follows a Jan. 8 misdemeanor charge of solicitation of prostitution by Harrisonburg (Virginia) Police Department.

“It is with sadness that I have accepted Luke’s resignation,” wrote President Loren Swartzendruber in a Jan. 12 email to the campus community.

Hartman had given energetic leadership to the enrollment division for the past four years, contributing to record growth and increasing diversity in the student body, noted Swartzendruber.

Hartman also served as a professor in the EMU teacher education program and an instructor in the master of education program for the past 12 years.

“We continue to welcome prayers for all those affected by this situation,” said Swartzendruber.
