I find the leaked draft of the Supreme Court’s decision on abortion deeply offensive for religious reasons (“Abortion: personal as well as political,” May 27). We are not a theocracy. Our form of government rests on the separation of church and state. Even Christians do not agree on the morality of abortion or on other issues such as the death penalty, killing in wars or birth control. We Americans denounce the Taliban and others as autocrats and terrorists who force their religious ideology on the girls and women in their power. Our constitutional democracy is set up to tolerate differences. We should not criminalize women who find it morally irresponsible to continue a pregnancy. How is the “pro-life” believer prepared to assist mothers and babies, long-term?
