Healthy obsession

Leonard Gross (Letters & Comments, Feb. 16) may well be right that Mennonite Church USA institutions are obsessed with John Howard Yoder. Or not. But for sure, this independent Anabaptist certainly is. Not only am I obsessed with how someone supposedly of such extraordinary ethical understandings and intellectual capacities could become obsessed (there’s that word again) with pursuing notions and behaviors that did so much harm to so many. But even more so, how Mennonite leaders could fail so abysmally at: 1) stopping his abusive behaviors; 2) protecting women from his predatory advances; and 3) bringing healing to his victims. That, I believe, is a healthy obsession, one that should continue for the foreseeable future.
