Every April, government and religious leaders across the United States encourage citizens to consider the plight of abused children and find practical methods to end child abuse and neglect in the communities where they live, work, and worship.
Dove’s Nest, a nonprofit organization working to provide child and youth protection information to faith communities, has developed a resource kit to use during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Items included in this free kit (available online or by request):
- A series of bulletin inserts that discuss child abuse prevention, offer prayers and responsive readings for congregations, and include information on how individuals and faith communities can protect children and youth and work to end child abuse and neglect
- A brief set of PowerPoint slides drawing attention to child abuse prevention (useful for pre-service announcements for churches with projection systems)
- A children’s story for use in worship, Sunday school, or other children’s programming
- A resource list of available books and websites offering information about child abuse prevention
“Dove’s Nest is growing and moving forward with our mission to empower faith communities to keep children and youth safe in their homes, churches, and communities,” said executive director, Jon Stanton. “Child Abuse Prevention Month is an excellent opportunity for faith communities and their leaders to discuss their role in preventing and ending child abuse and neglect. Dove’s Nest is available to assist them with achieving that goal.”
