Lacey Scully of Wichita, Kan., is the new editor of Christian Leader, the magazine of the U.S. Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. She succeeds Connie Faber, who retired in May after 31 years on the USMB denominational magazine staff, including 21 years as editor.
Scully served more than 12 years with the U.S. General Services Administration, most recently as manager in the Office of Digital Management from 2021 to 2025. She and her family reside in Wichita, Kan., where they attend Ridgepoint Church and regularly serve in children’s ministry.
At 31 years, Faber is the longest serving Christian Leader staff member. Orlando Harms has the longest tenure as editor, serving for 22 years, from 1954 to 1976. Faber served as editor for 21 years, starting in 2004. Faber coordinated several magazine redesigns that coincided with significant changes within the magazine or USMB. The award-winning 2010 redesign saw the magazine published in full color throughout for the first time. She was involved in developing and enhancing the magazine’s online platforms and social media presence, and under her leadership, Christian Leader won 16 awards from the Evangelical Press Association.
“Connie has faithfully served the USMB conference for over three decades,” said USMB national director Aaron Box. “Under her leadership, Christian Leader has won numerous awards and has faithfully told the story of our churches. Connie leaves giant shoes to fill in both her dedication and skill and will be dearly missed.”
Scully has served as a freelance writer for two publications and volunteered from 2009 to 2011 with the Peace Corps in Togo. She will manage the production of six issues of Christian Leader annually, working with associate editor Janae Shafer.
“It’s an honor and privilege to join the Christian Leader team and be a part of a rich history of creating community and drawing people closer to the Lord,” Scully said. “I’m extremely humbled to take on this role, and I’m eager to see what the Lord has ahead for this publication and how we can minister to our Mennonite Brethren family.”
