MC USA convention speakers announced

Mennonite Church USA announced its worship speakers for next summer’s Kansas City, Mo., convention Nov. 14 in the KC 2015 convention newsletter.

Mennonite Central Committee Central States director Michelle Armster — a pastor, preacher and teacher — will address youth and adults in the opening worship session June 30.

Shane Claiborne, an author and founder of The Simple Way faith community in Philadelphia, will close the convention in a similar joint session July 5.

Adult worship speakers include Hal Shrader, lead pastor of Trinity Mennonite Church in Glendale, Ariz.; Patricia Shelly, MC USA moderator-elect and professor of Bible and religion at Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.; Dale Schrag, recently retired director of church relations and campus pastor at Bethel College; and Cyneatha Millsaps, pastor of Community Mennonite Church in Markham, Ill.

Millsaps will also speak in a youth worship session. Other youth worship speakers are Isaac Villegas, pastor of Chapel Hill (N.C.) Mennonite Fellowship; Michele Hershberger, chair of the Bible and Ministry department at Hesston (Kan.) College; Esdras Ferreras, pastor of Sonido de Alabanza (Sound of Praise) in Cicero, Ill.; Luke Hartman, vice president for enrollment at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va.; and John Valenzuela, senior pastor at 210 Church in San Antonio, Texas.
