Peacebuilder missing, feared murdered

An Indigenous tribal representative opposing corporate logging on ancestral land in the Philippines was murdered April 30, according to his fellow tribesmen.

Prior to his disappearance on that date, John Calaba advocated with PeaceBuild­ers Community Inc. for the cessation of logging on ancestral Dulangan Manobo lands.

Despite own trauma, Nepalis help others after quakes

Binay Church Council, a group of Nepali Anabaptist fellowships, is reaching out to communities affected by the April and May earthquakes in Nepal with a goal of assisting 2,000 families.

“These earthquakes hit in the heart of the area where Binay has been actively engaged in church planting for years,” said a regional representative for Eastern Mennonite Missions, who arrived in Nepal within a week of the April 25 earthquake to deliver initial EMM financial aid.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Eastern Mennonite Missions worker Sean FitzGerald finds himself deeply impacted by his recent service among and ongoing relationships with Karen refugees from Myanmar, formerly Burma, living in Lancaster.

MCC responds with food, shelter, supplies in Nepal

Mennonite Central Committee will begin its Nepal earthquake response by working with a local organization in the remote, eastern area of the country, providing food and other essential items to affected families.

Support for about 200 families in Okhaldhunga District will assist people whose homes are no longer safe for use and who have less than one week of food available. Priority will be given to female-led households, and households . . .

Rare Russian Mennonite photos to see new life

A collection of photos depicting Mennonite life in Southern Russia (present-day Ukraine) at the turn of the 20th century — a pinnacle quickly wiped out by the Bolshevik Revolution — should find its way back to the printed page early next year.
