Meeting April 6-8 in Kansas City, Mo., the board approved the resolution — along with three others and one that’s still being worked on — for delegates’ consideration.
“We think it has the potential to help us live together with our disagreements,” said Ervin Stutzman, MC USA executive director, in a telephone interview after the meeting.
That was the question for the Mennonite Church USA Constituency Leaders Council as its members weighed three proposed resolutions on sexuality and church polity.
They chose the call for unity and tolerance.
The congregation, which takes an affirming stance toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, had been a nonvoting member for 10 years.
