As a war-tax resister for a half century, I welcome John Stoner and Harold A. Penner’s visionary Church Peace Tax Fund proposal (“We’ll Pay for Peace,” print edition, April 15). Paying for weapons and war is sucking the soul out of us and destroying the world. Many of us have long known it is inconsistent — sin! — to “pray for peace and pay for war.” Creating a Church Peace Tax Fund will help us proclaim with our lives that we’ll pay as well as pray for peace and once again bear witness to the world what it means to be a Historic Peace Church.
