I am somewhat offended that Steve Hoeppner uses the Book of Jude to talk about apostasy in the Mennonite church (“Jude’s Warnings Come True,” Sept. 28). My offense mostly comes from his opinion that he is a prophet with a word from God for the rest of us. He blames the entire apostasy of the church on one issue: accepting homosexuality, which Jesus did not even mention. I can think of so many other areas of our lifestyles that go against the words of Jesus regarding Mammon, care of the less fortunate, putting the good of others before our own, humility and simple living. I will hedge my bets toward love and openness rather than judging my LGBTQ neighbors and excluding them from the expansive love of God.
