Kenneth C. Wiebe 95, died June 1, 2026, at Villa Manor Care Center, Lakewood, Colo. He was a father, grandfather, surgeon, farmer, teacher and servant of God.
He was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Newton, Kan., to Willie and Esther (Claassen) Wiebe. He grew up on the family farm raising cattle and growing crops. After graduating from Berean Academy, he attended Grace Bible Institute for three years before transferring to Wheaton College to study premed. He graduated from Wheaton in 1954 and entered medical school at the University of Kansas. He met Marie Crapuchettes at Wheaton, and they married during his second year of medical school. He graduated from medical school in 1959.
Ken had a successful and rewarding surgical practice for 27 years in Oxnard, Calif., at St. John’s Hospital. When Marie had a stroke in 1989, Ken became her caregiver for 19 years.
Ken and Marie moved back to his home community in Kansas and bought his uncle Ernest Claassen’s farm, a half mile from where he grew up. That purchase allowed him to return to doing what he always really wanted to do, farming close to his older brother Lloyd. The brothers and Lloyd’s son Darren farmed together. Driving his grain truck during harvest gave Ken great joy. He was generous, a great advice giver, a storyteller with dramatic embellishments and self-taught adventurous cook.
Marie preceded Ken in death, as did his brother Lloyd Wiebe and sister Marianne Siebert. He is survived by a son, Matt (Lori Andrews) of New Mexico; three daughters, Heidi, Margo (John Franz) and Bekkey (Kevin Yoder), all of Colorado; five grandchildren; and sister Evelyn Quiring.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 22 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in Whitewater, Kan.
