Persecuted Christians

I appreciated “Persecution of Christians Reached Historic Levels in 2014” (World & Faith, Jan. 19). This concern should take high priority in our hearts and prayers and church media. Many of these persecuted believers are Anabaptists, especially those in Nigeria. The New Testament makes it clear that God’s heart is with his persecuted followers. We are called to a spirit of oneness with all believers, not just other comfortable Christians. The dire circumstances of our spiritual kin should have a profound impact on our personal, congregational and denominational life. Only when we experience a sense of global Christian unity will we have any chance for local unity. Let’s focus on concerns that move God’s heart rather than issues that divide God’s people.
