The Amish have never become involved in politics nor voted, and it’s not likely they will now (“Ads Introduce Trump to the Amish,” Aug. 1). They are aloof from the affairs of government.

Newspaper ads will not convince the Amish to vote. They realize God is in control, and he will appoint the next president: “For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Rom. 13:1). Although neither major presidential candidate is fit for the office, God will still bring it to pass. Should we be surprised at the problem of choosing upright and honest leaders when we see the direction a godless society is moving?

Mennonites could learn from the Amish and remain separated from the world, not only in politics but in every part of our lifestyle. I know the Amish well; they were our neighbors in Kidron, Ohio. They believe you cannot be a part of two kingdoms nor serve two masters. I do not plan to vote for president this year but rather by prayer and supplication leave it up to God.
