I enjoyed the article by Elam Stoltzfus about the Ausbund (“Lifelong love song,” January). My family left the Amish when I was 13. I remember hosting the church meeting and the bench wagon with the box of Ausbund hymn books. My father was often asked to lead the hymns. On Saturday evening he would get his Ausbund out and sing the hymns he expected would be used the next day. I inherited his Ausbund. The Lob Lied was always the second hymn of the service. However, there was something incorrect in the article: Lob means “praise” and not “love.” The Lob Lied is the praise hymn, not the love song.
