An ecumenical group of church leaders in Venezuela — led by a Mennonite, Erwin Mirabal — describes its educational mission with a metaphor of the gospel of Jesus as a healthy infection.

After 10 years, Allegheny reinstates Hyattsville church

In a 72-70 vote on March 7, Mennonite Church USA’s Allegheny Mennonite Conference reinstated Hyattsville (Md.) Mennonite Church as a full, voting member.

The congregation, which takes an affirming stance toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, had been a nonvoting member for 10 years.

Oregon school, conference facing $5.5 million lawsuit

A former student of Western Mennonite School in Salem, Ore., has filed a lawsuit seeking $5.5 million in damages from the school and Pacific Northwest Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA.

The student was sexually abused by a teacher, Matthew David Yoder, who pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree sex abuse in March 2014. He was sentenced to 32 months in prison.
