HILLSBORO, Kan. — Ryne Preheim wanted to be a Mennonite Brethren pastor. He enrolled at Tabor College in the fall of 2014 to pursue that goal and see if he could reconcile his Christianity with being gay. A year later, Preheim is preparing to transfer after struggling with being an openly gay student at a college that upholds a traditional view of homosexuality. USMB delegates approve peace article revision

Delegates at the U.S. Mennonite Brethren national convention in Santa Clara, Calif., voted July 26 to revise the article on “Love, Peacemaking and Reconciliation” in the denomination’s Confession of Faith.

The revision to Article 13 — which passed 103-10 — describes nonparticipation in the military as a choice that “many of us” make.

Tiny house a big decision for Kansas couple

HILLSBORO, Kan. — Kyle and Danae Schmidt are building their dream home: a tiny house.

Once it’s built, the Schmidts plan to live comfortably in about 200 square feet of space that will include two lofts on either end of the house. Floor dimensions measure 7 feet by 24 feet, and the roof peaks at 13 and a half feet.
