The June 16 issue began with feature articles on church unity and peacefulness, followed by news stories about wealth redistribution and returning land to Indigenous communities. As Mennonite Church USA finds its way forward, I encourage us to view the former theme (unity) through the demands of the latter (reparative action). Our three resolutions from May 2022 point to this. We advocate for a criminal legal system that is restorative and not just punitive. We recognize harms done to LGBTQ folks among us and seek to right those wrongs. We commit to greater accessibility through structural changes in our buildings, words for worship and mindsets. Let’s keep walking with Jesus together through reparative actions.
