Muriel Quenzer, 85, died June 25, 2026. She was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Reedley, Calif., to Willie and Florenda Heinrichs. She lived her childhood years between Reedley and Fresno. She met Ken Quenzer on a blind date at a miniature golf course, and they were married in 1959. They made Mennonite Community Church in Fresno their church home and, except for three years while Kenneth attended seminary in Elkhart, Ind., have been members of the congregation ever since. In 1961 a son, Galen, was born, followed in 1965 by a daughter, Laurie.

Muriel dedicated her life to working with children. She was an instructional aid for chil­dren with disabilities at Ginsburg Elementary School and a Braille transcriber for visually impaired children at Wolters Elementary. She was a partner with Ken in his work at the Pine­dale Boys Club in the 1960s, volunteering many evening hours. She advocated for girls to attend the Boys Club and is credited with the Fresno County organization changing its policy to include girls and changing the name to Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County. Being home with her children was a priority, and she was responsible for many vacation adventures. Sailing became a family pastime, and many days and weekends were spent on Millerton and Huntington Lakes. As the family grew, the boats got bigger and the trips more exotic.

Muriel left a family thankful for her love and support, including her husband of 67 years; daughter Laurie Hiebert (Matt); son Galen Quenzer (LeAnne); four grandchildren and two great-grandsons; and brothers Ken Heinrichs and Rodney Heinrichs. She was pre­deceased by her parents and a sister, Ellen Goertzen.
