BMC releases “Trans 101” resource

The Brethren Mennonite Council for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Interests (BMC), announces a new resource for Mennonite and Brethren communities entitled “Trans 101.” The booklet features the narratives of six different transgender Mennonites and Brethren, basic terms and definitions, answers to common questions and misconceptions, a list of resources, spiritual resources for churches and more.

This resource was created as an introduction to transgender identities and experiences.

BMC’s Kaleidoscope Coordinator, Hayley Brooks, said, “In the Mennonite communities I am a part of, I saw of void of knowledge and education surrounding trans identities and experiences. This booklet is an attempt to bridge that gap.”

BMC is a non profit, bi-national organization that began in 1976 to provide community, support, education, and a prophetic voice for Brethren and Mennonite LGBT individuals, their families and friends. It exists independently of the Church of the Brethren and the Mennonite Church USA and Canada.

To download a web version of the resource for free, visit bmclgbt.org/general-resources. You can also purchase a print copy ($6 includes shipping and handling) by contacting the BMC office at (612) 343-2060, or email bmc@bmclgbt.org.
