I appreciated Brian Souder’s “When Wars Begin, Christians Cry” (page 42, previously published at anabaptistworld.org). I’d been unable to cry in recent times, and his words cracked something open that allowed a healing flow of tears. When I read a portion of the article in a sermon, it landed as balm for weary souls. The elderly man Souder describes reminds me of my father, a conscientious objector with a gentle presence, unafraid of weeping when wars begin.
